IONS: FOUNDED BY EDGAR MITCHELL
The Institute of Noetic Sciences was founded in 1973 by Edgar Mitchell, one of our first astronauts. He had a completely unexpected experience on his trip to the moon in 1971. He describes this as an epiphany bringing him the realization that this planet and the universe were not merely accidents based on random processes. Mitchell says this knowledge came to him directly – noetically. He wanted to learn more about our human capacity to access the areas of consciousness he had experienced and to explore further. To this end he established The Institute of Noetic Sciences.
Today, IONS carries out its mission as a worldwide research, education and membership organization. There are more than 220 community groups in nearly 50 countries on six continents. Please visit the IONS website: www.noetic.org.
